Task:  Build the largest sail powered charter vessel in the northeastern United States, which, when completed will be certified as safe by the United States Coast Guard.   Do this with one person who has ever built a boat.   How is this done?

1.  Hire local talent by screening for intelligence, creativity, resourcefulness, ingenuity, and at least some moderate tactile skills with hand tools.  Mix well, and remove individuals who do not appear to play well with others.   Hoped for result;   A highly intelligent and skilled workforce which is synergistically better than the sum total of its constituent members.

2.  Get some of these:

It is important for the reader to note that this is a living thing, from which a boat will be crafted.  Should the reader neglect to note this point, much will be lost from the intended message which the author is trying to convey.

3.  The trees actually arrive looking more like this:

It isn't actually useable to us in this form, or in its present condition.  So we have to process the wood first.   We do this by:

    a.  Building a few kilns.

    b.  Building an epoxy station.

    c.  Coating one side with epoxy.

( ready to receive first coat )

Once this is completed, we put them into the kiln ( we have two kilns, each kiln will hold up to ten sheets of meranti marine plywood ).

Once they have dried, we remove them, set them out on saw horses over which we lay a cross piece 'bridge', and scrape the entire board from top to bottom then from bottom to top ( but NOT from side to side ) with cabinet scrapers that we make and sharpen.  Then we roll on the second coat, which must be tipped...  then back into the kiln.

Each side gets three coats, and once this has been completed, the last coat is roughed up with 220 grit sand paper.

In order to be able to actually do anything with the thus prepared wood ( each sheet probably takes about three to five days to process, and will end up costing, if you count material cost, shipping/delivery, epoxy cost, labor, etc., somewhere in the vicinity of $350 each.  Mis-cuts are not a good thing.) you must have some of these:

Once you have all of this stuff, and a place to work, you have to have some idea of what to do..  plans are nice...  and then you get started!!
